On the Fourth of July the 2006 WSOP (World Series of Poker) tournament 2006 World Series of Poker is planning a three day event, the No-Limit Hold'em, from July 4, 2006 through July 6, 2006. On July 4th, 2006, ESPN Classic will broadcast clips from the 1993 World Series of Poker and the 2005 World Series of Poker. Las Vegas has stiff competition this Fourth of July from some Gulf Coast gambling casinos. The casino industry made a spectacular rebound despite catastrophic damage from Hurricane Katrina and the evacuation of many local residents, Thousands of recovery workers with money and time to spend, and not a whole lot of entertainment options, are gambling in Gulf Coast casinos. Before Katrina, the Gulf Coast was one of the nations top gambling, ranking right behind Las Vegas and Atlantic City in terms of prestige, size and the number of gamblers. The Gulf Coast will again be a top gaming market because of the billions of dollars spent there to restore and upgrade the casinos.
Casinos are opening in Louisiana and Mississippi just in the nick of time for the Fourth of July, barely ten months after Katrina washed ashore and caused massive destruction. Treasure Bay was given approval Thursday by the Mississippi Gaming Commission to open its temporary casino. Biloxi's Boomtown Casino just reopened right in time for the July Fourth casino gamblers. A few blocks away the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is scheduled to open Tuesday July 4, 2007.
A Fourth of July gambling event of a different genre and off the beaten track, neither at an online casino or land-based casino, is the annual Fourth of July Super Bowl of competitive eating sponsored by the all-American Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest. For the past two years BetWWTS.com handicapped the Nathan's event and offered several online gambling options on the world-famous eating contest, including who will win the popular Mustard Yellow Championship Belt. A two-time winner of the Fourth of July contest, Takeru Kobayashi of Japan set a world record by gulping down 50 1/2 Nathan's Famous hot dogs and buns in just 12 minutes! Kobayashis the overwhelming favorite to win this July Fourth for the third year in a row. Gamblers can place odds on any of the 14 finalists competing in the Nathan's event on July Fourth. Place your bets on the winner of the July 4th eating contest. The Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Championship is held each year on July 4th at the original Nathan's Famous site in Coney Island, NY. July 4, 2006 marks 70 years since its first Fourth of July event, but this July Fourth you can bet online.
