UK National Lottery helps to fund social initiatives

A number of large bodies have joined forces in the UK to set up the framework within which young people can advance social entrepreneurship projects. Called the Young Peoples Fund, this project awards grants of between 250 and 5,000 pounds to help individuals and small groups of young people - aged between 11 and 25 years old - deliver projects in their local areas.

The Young People's Fund aims to By placing young people at the center of creating, planning and delivering projects, the Young People's Fund encourages them to:
Be healthy: enjoy good physical and mental health and live a healthy lifestyle.
Stay safe: be protected from harm and neglect and grow up able to look after themselves.
Develop skills: Enjoy and achieve getting the most out of life and develop the skills needed in adulthood.
Making a positive contribution: support the community and society and not offend or behave anti-socially.
Be economically viable: overcome disadvantages to achieve full potential in life.
One of the bodies is UnLtd - the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs. This is a charitable organization that has its goal as supporting and developing the role of social entrepreneurs as a force for positive change in the United Kingdom. Other organizations are The Prince's Trust, Scarman Trust and Changemakers.
A key player is the Big Lottery Fund, which is the joint operating name for two other lottery organizations the New Opportunity Fund and the National Lottery Charities Board. Launched on 1st January 2004, Big Lottery distributes half of all National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. So far, over 5 billion has been used for initiatives with national, regional and local partners from the public, voluntary, charity and private sectors. There is a particular focus on projects serving disadvantaged people.
Big Lottery Fund runs a partnership with UnLtd that helps thousands of young people in England to make their community improvement ideas a reality with £10 million of lottery cash.
