The move towards mobile gambling

Look at one of the latest mobile phones and you realize why playing a casino game on it is just a question of time. It has a large high-resolution color screen, strong processing power and a full operating system - in fact everything you'd expect from a mini-PC.

The phone is even being marketed as a camera, a music player, an electronic diary…which also accepts phone calls. The other key point is that people are moving around far more, with the mobile phone becoming the central work-tool.
What's the status of gaming on mobile platforms today (any hand-held computer gizmo with a wireless connection)? Everybody is lining up to get in on the act, because other avenues for attracting players are becoming saturated. The Internet is now chock-full of web sites offering every possible variant of wagering.
Experts reckon that sports betting, including horse races and team sports will be one of the first applications. Many countries approve of this kind of betting, so doing it via a mobile phone is just another variation. Another area is lotteries, where bets will be placed via phone rather than queuing up at some kiosk to buy a ticket.
In terms of casino games, the first candidates for mobile gaming will be anything that is played against the house: blackjack, slots, craps and roulette. Smart phones can now accept a version of the Java programming language that shows cards being dealt and other typical casino stages. Imagine your call-phone screen being instantly converted into a slots machine.
In anticipation of the growing traffic for mobile gaming, cellular carriers are expected to offer flat-fee data access just like they do for voice calls. They spend heavily to give their networks high-speed data capabilities and they need the volume of customers to pay for those investments.
By all estimates, mobile gaming is the next large horizon to be reached in our fast-paced digital world. The technology is moving ahead fast, and many pieces of the puzzle are already in place. Whether it is so desirable to be able to gamble at any point in time, anywhere, is an entirely different question.
