Full Tilt poker tournament ends in cheating scandal [Monday, December 17, 2007]

|
The managing editor of Bluff Magazine has been fired for cheating in an online poker tournament.
|
Chris Vaughn won first place in Full Tilt Poker's $1 Million Guarantee online tournament on 21st October this year, taking home a tidy $197,984. He then went on to win another tournament the following week, collecting $240,633 at PokerStars Sunday Million. He seemed to be on a roll.
Rumours started in online poker forums of just how good a player Vaughn was and if he had had help from another, better player. Vaughn was eventually accused of 'ghosting' selling his account to another player half-way through the tournament. It was suggested that the other player was Sorel Mizzi, a young but very successful online player.
Full Tilt disqualified Vaughn and promoted all the other winners up a place. Exposed, Vaughn and Mizzi then agreed to give an interview admitting they had indeed cheated, and apologized.
Bluff Magazine initially issued a statement saying that Vaughn was doing a good job as editor and would remain in his position. However that all changed this week as they decided to fire him after all, no doubt after all the drama cast doubt on their reputation.
This is not the first time that cheating has been exposed in online poker tournaments. Poker rooms are taking steps to tighten security so this does not become a regular event.
