PartyGaming and Playtech joining forces in Asia [Thursday, January 11, 2007]
Cash-rich PartyGaming, recovering after withdrawing from the USA market following the UIGEA law, is consolidating its forces by buying a number of struggling companies. Last week it bought Empire Online and InterContinental Online.
Now it has signed a multi-year deal with the World Poker Tour and has also joined forces with Playtech to penetrate the Asian market. Both companies are determined to seek large market share in the highly promising Asian online gambling markets. Playtech will provide the software for the well-known and respected online poker and casino brands that PartyGaming acquired recently.
According to the agreement between the two companies, PartyGaming will be able to use Playtech's online casino, poker and bingo products, which are considered to be the best software platforms in the online gaming industry.
For its part, Playtech has made strong progress in China. It recently signed a five-year agreement with Sino Strategic International, China's leading gaming group, to write the software for popular Asian games that include Mah-Jong, Do Di Zhu and Choi Da Di.
Playtech's chief executive commented: "Asia is the big story for Playtech right now. This is the most lucrative and fastest growing market and everyone wants to tap into it. This agreement with PartyGaming is a real endorsement from the leading gaming company and we are delighted to have established this important relationship."
