Italy and Spain to join UK in regulating online gambling

Governments in Italy and Spain are following the UK example. They have passed laws that allow and regulate land-based and online gambling. As a result, many of the larger global betting companies, recovering from the US's Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, have targeted these countries. In Italy, large players such as William Hill, Ladbrokes and Unibet have applied for licenses.

In Italy, the government is auctioning 17,000 licenses for sports and racing betting at land based locations, and these licenses include online sports betting. Italy is also regulating online gambling, which it calls remote casino gambling'.
In Spain, the focus at the moment is on regulating sports betting in shops as well as online. There is some flexibility for adjustments by regional governments in Spain, which retain their legislative powers. It is reasonable to suppose that where sports betting starts, casino betting will not be far behind.
Together with the UK, Italy and Spain are saying that online gambling is a given fact and the best approach is to regulate it, and gain financially from it.
