Le Salon des Ambassadeurs, a French club, was due to run a promotion for Pokerstars.com that includes images of Chris Moneymaker, a well known poker personality and former World Series of Poker champion.
French authorities acted recently to ban advertising images of both Pokerstars and Moneymaker at the club.
In addition, last September 2006, BWIN were arrested in the South of France in a French adaptation of the American 'Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act'.
The increasingly hostile French environment to gambling has had an effect European Poker Tour, which ran very successful and popular leg in Deauville in 2005 and 2006. This year, 2007, French authorities have not allowed the event to take place. In its place, the European Poker Tour has announced two new legs - in Warsaw, Poland and Dortmund, Germany. These two countries are new venues for Poker. Italy is another potential location, since gambling laws have been relaxed there.
