Maryland Opens It's Doors To Casinos [Sunday, November 09, 2008]
	Baltimore city officials have already began their preparations for a new casino as the state is prepping up for slot machine gambling after Maryland voters approved the said move. City officials approved a 4.1 million USD land purchase by the city last Thursday.
The site of the proposed casino is located south of downtown and the old line state will be giving 5 slot licenses to gambling operators looking to open slot casinos where the target is to award those licenses in areas that will be the least resistant to casinos. Stop Slots Maryland founder Aaron Meisner said that there's no need to speculate about whether there's going to be an opposition as the state can pretty much bank on it and people don't want to live on places that are close to casinos. Meisner assessment might be correct in having opposition but as for not wanting to live near them, voters proved on the recent US presidential election that the majority of voters has no problem with casinos based on the polls where almost a 3 to 2 ratio shows how Marylanders are ready to join several other states in accepting casino gambling to their area as the huge amount of income that will be generated from the gambling industry will be a big factor in supporting the education of their children. But opposition groups are using the same old arguments to try and sway voters to vote against the slots expansion pointing to crime and addiction as a reason to vote against it. Political analysist Brian Camerod said what these opposition groups found out in Maryland and other areas in the US with this Tuesday's presidential election is that the new generation of voters is not feared into voting a certain way and the old arguments are not making sense to new voters who are now more concerned about the economic crisis in the US.
