Midwest Gaming Finally Gets Casino License
[Wednesday, December 24, 2008]
Illinois is close perilously to making the same mistake that happened to Kansas where the state waited too long and watch the economy go on a nosedive before filling their casino licenses. A lot of that anxiety was relieved after the Gaming Board of the state voted 3 to 1 in favor of giving to Midwest Gaming the final casino license which came as a surprise as there were higher bidders aspiring to get the license.
Among the 3 finalists on getting the licence, Midwest was actually the lowest bidder with an upfront 125 million USD licensing fee and the rest of would be paid in 10 million USD yearly installments for a period of 30 years. The second highest bidder was Waukegan Gaming with a bid of 225 million USD. Trilliant Gaming came in with a walloping 435 million USD bid. According to one of the Board members, the company wanted to bring a casino to Rosemont but the area was not appropriate to have a casino.
Only Eugene Winkler voted against Midwest on getting the license. The Reverend did not vote for any of the proposals which he felt all had their loopholes. Among the areas being denied of the license, Waukegan was the one that was most upset as the district was hoping that the casino could help them redevelop their area and the mayor of even expressed his disappointment with the results.
