Casinos on the Look out for iPhone Card counting app

The Nevada Gaming Control Board is currently investigating an Apple iPhone application called iBlackjack. The control board posted a warning on their website after learning about this card-counting software for the iPhone. According to the memo, this card-counting application can be installed on Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. and it can make counting cards easy once this software is installed on the phone by getting it from the iTunes homepage.

Aside from the warning, the control board also included a screenshot of what the application looks like. They also included the details on how the application uses card-counting strategies to improve the player's assessment on the dealer's deck. According to the memo, the program can be used in stealth mode which shuts off the iPhone screen and makes the phone appear to be turned off. However, the user can still continue to track cards by pressing the screen where the keys would normally show as long as the user knows where these keys are located.
According to Randy Sayre, a member of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, they haven't received any proven facts that program has been used in casinos. For the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen a casino-based film or TV show, a card-counting technique helps a player to better guess the probability of winning a hand by remembering what cards have been dealt and the ratio of high cards to low cards. According to the control board, card-counting is legal at most casinos in the state of Nevada but doing this with the use of a device is illegal.
