UK Freezes Online Gambling White List

Recently, the UK Government released a statement that there will be no additions to the White List of approved online casino sites until at least 2010. The reason for that is because the UK regulators needed some time to review the UK Gambling act before amendments could be discussed for the White List.

Gambling interests based in the UK have raised issues before the government that offshore gambling sites are gradually driving them off the tracks. The Department of Culture, Media and Sport will try to sort things out for these businesses by changing tax methods used for foreign online casinos.
What upsets UK observers too is that there is a problem with compliance to EU trade regulations in online gambling by its fellow members. British officials say that UK has tolerated fair competition but never received the same treatment from other EU nations.
Online casinos that have passed regulatory checks and standards for both the operator and the licensing authority make up the UK White List. A slot on this list is highly sought considering that it is deemed as a hallmark of proper rules for responsible gaming as far as online casino companies are concerned.
But current regulatory problems in Antigua has left questions regarding the efficiency of White Listing, since Antigua passed the standards. Historically, the Alan Standford banking scandal involves the highest level of banking regulators in Antigua, who happen to be in charge of gaming regulation.
