Research Shows that Online Gaming Reduces Stress

A McGill University study suggested that online gaming is actually good for the health. The study conducted by the university in Montreal, Quebec revealed that after playing online games, including casino games, players feel less stressed. Also, cortisol, the stress hormone, fell by an average of 17 percent. For some behavioural scientists, this is a proof that playing online games can be a possible way to reduce harmful stress levels. It is well known to doctors that stress causes destructive behaviours such as drinking in excess and overeating. These behaviours can cause heart problems and social instability.

In an Eastern Carolina University study conducted over six months that included 134 subjects, they found that computer games were able to reduce stress and boost overall mood. Also, an Oxford University study revealed that gaming may be effective in dealing with post traumatic stress syndrome. Researchers are convinced that playing online can be an escape mechanism that relaxes players. There are studies that link stress and cancer. Stress can also lower the effectiveness of the immune system, causing irritable bowel syndrome and headaches. It is possible that if they play computer games, they may live longer.
An online casino which conducted an informal research of blackjack players revealed that 74 percent of the players felt that the games were a way to have fun and ease stress. Players who reported that the game did not help with stress played for higher stakes. An earlier survey that involves roulette players has the same results. About 77 percent of the players find the game a good way to release stress.
