Ontario Premier Eyeing on Online Casinos

What made news yesterday were reports that the newly appointed OLG head is considering the possibility of establishing its own government-regulated online casino. Ontario Premiere Dalton McGuinty heard the buzz and is now mulling over the legalization of gambling operations over the internet in Ontario.

When the hearsays came out about Godfrey looking for a CEO of the prospective business venture, McGuinty understood that the plan could be a practical solution for revenue generation considering that Ontario currently has a $24.7 billion deficit and has lots of budget problems when it comes to funding public programs. Online gambling has been proven to gain more than enough revenue as Loto Quebec is already anticipating a sum of $50 million in a span of three years. With that amount, Ontario can definitely cope with its economic difficulties.
With these things being considered, McGuinty released a statement on Tuesday confirming that they need to come up with a resolution about the future of online gambling in Ontario, adding that it is something that they cannot avoid.
Political analysts are airing their support of the issue. Jedd Derevensky, a gambling researching in McGill University says that the Canadian government is losing so much revenue to thousands of foreign online gambling portals.
He also says that if the government could take a part of such earnings, they could make a good use of the money in government programs.
It's just a matter of time before they reach a final decision, and Paul Godfrey seems to have decided on the plan already, and all that's needed is a go signal from Mc Guinty.
