Frank's Online Gambling Bill House Hearing Finally Set [Sunday, April 18, 2010]
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) has been created back in 2006 and since then US Representative and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank is persistently pushing the bill to overturn UIGEA entirely to permit online gambling in the US. Amidst of delays and push backs the bill encounters, this Friday April 16 Frank's Bill proposal will finally be heard.
The hearing is slated to focus on the two bills, the first bill "Reasonable Prudence in Regulation Act" that would delay for 1 year the scheduled ban on online gambling this coming June 1 and the second bill "Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act" that would exempt the operators that are licensed and regulated from the ban, in response to UIGEA which restricted the Americans bet online which is inappropriate interference to their personal freedom on what to do in their own money.
Michael Waxman, the spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative (SSIGI) said in a press release in regards to this upcoming hearing: "This hearing will provide further evidence that the UIGEA is a poorly-crafted law that simply does not work. A more common sense approach to protect Americans is required. We expect this hearing to provide further impetus for the House Financial Services Committee and Congress to address this issue and move forward Chairman Frank's regulatory bill."
In line to Frank's bill, Jim McDermott introduced Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act that would collect taxes from wagers from these online gambling operators that would raised revenue for the state budget and to give assistance in foster care. Other politicians were also encouraged to be involved by Franks introduction on online gambling initiatives.
Though the bill is not expected to be marked up in committee this Friday but the spectators has confidence to advance to the full House floor for final form of legislation.
