Improve the chance of winning in Baccarat [Thursday, November 09, 2006]

Baccarat is one of the most popular casino games, which can be found at both online and land-based casinos. It presents all the best aspects of casino gaming and it is quite similar to other casino games due to the fact that it is depends on chance more than on skills. So in general the main propose of the game is pretty simple.
|
Players need to bet on either of two hands dealt on the table: "player" or "banker" and the winning hand is the one that comes closest to 9. A player can always improve his or her chance of winning by learning few strategies.
Optimal strategy
First, try choosing game with as few decks as possible and a casino that charges a 'commission on banker bet' lower than 5%. Generally the best choice is the 6 deck card game with 4 percent commission on the winning "Banker" hand.
Second, make a plan and follow it. Don't bet more than you can afford to loose and try to control how much you bet on each round (including commission). In this way you can enjoy a longer game.In addition, don't base your gaming decisions on earlier bets' result.
Third and more specific, in Baccarat you have only a choice of three bets and the worse option of the three is to bet on tie because of the high house edge. It is better to bet on the Banker hand which has the lowest house edge. The house edge means that Banker hand wins more often in the long run. Even after paying a 5% commission, it is still a better proposition than betting on "Player hand":
Player Hand bet- the house edge is 1.29%.
Bank Hand bet - the house edge is 1.01%.
Tie Hand bet - the house edge is 15.75%.
Baccarat Versions
There are many variations of the game that you can find in different countries, but "Baccarat" is usually played today with the American version. Although they come under different names and rules, the purpose of the game stays the same. The elements that distinguish between the game versions are mostly who is permitted to play the role of the banker, some differences in drawing rules and the fact that in European casinos they usually use chips to place wagers, while in North America they use real money.
Chemin de fer ("railroad" in French) This version can be found in some European casinos (mostly French casinos). In this version you cannot switch between betting as a Player or Banker (Punto or Banco). You have to decide to be one or the other. The players wager among themselves and the bank rotates among the players (counterclockwise around the table like a train).
American Baccarat - In this version, the player is against the House and the casino provides the financial backing for the game. This is in contrast to the Chemin de Fer version, when the Casino has no direct involvement in the betting and the dealer take cares that everything runs smoothly and provides the game equipment. Another difference is that unlike the French Baccarat, it has flexible drawing rules for the third card and the player has the option to either Draw or Stand. The role of the banker is completely optional.
European Baccarat
European Baccarat has a few key differences in rules as compared to American one. The player has the option of standing or drawing on 5 and the banker has an option on whether to draw a third card. In addition, when a player wants to cover the entire banker's bet, he calls out "Banco" and no other players are allowed to bet during that round.
Baccarat en banque
This variation can be found in some European casinos. The goal of the game is the same - to get as close to 9 as possible, but the difference is that only the house plays the role of banker (the bank is operated by a casino employee). In this case when the Casino is a Banker, the bets can be much larger than when another player is acting as the bank. Also another difference is that the game can be played with as few as one player (in Chemin de Fer there must be two players at least two players to start the game).
