The simplicity of Keno [Thursday, November 09, 2006]

The game of Keno was developed in ancient China over 2000 years ago.
It is a game which based mostly on pure luck. As in the case of a lottery game, a player has to select a variety of numbers and hope that those will be picked in a draw. Depending on how many numbers the player got right, he might get some kind of payoff - but that also depends on what game he plays. Whether it's the keno or lottery, neither is a sure winning game and won't return much of what is put into it. However, if a player manages to hit the big numbers, he can get a lot more than he invested!

Keno is a direct game without many rules to follow which makes it very simple for beginners. Even though the main ingredient is luck, it is always more rewarding to know the rules and how to make the right decisions in order to improve the odds.
How to play
The game is based on special keno 'tickets', where each ticket has 80 squares numbered 1 to 80 and arranged in rows of 10. The same numbers also appear on the 80 balls that are located in a usually clear plastic sphere and randomly spun inside. There are different limitations as to how many numbers the player can select depending on the location of the game, but 20 would be the absolute maximum.
In addition the ticket contains several areas that need to be marked in order to identify the game and any other information needed. After filling the ticket the player should collect his or her prize before the start of a new game!
As mentioned, the game is mostly based on luck and it is not possible way to change the odds or the house edge in a similar way to other casino games. If you feel that luck is not on your side, its better to leave and play a different game.
Can you apply strategy?
You'll pick numbers randomly so there's no strategy in that. The difference comes in money management - because this will determine whether you continue playing the Keno game or not. Another important strategy is to decide when to play and how many numbers to pick because it changes the player odds to win. If the player picks just two numbers, does he or she have a better chance of hitting 100% of those numbers than if he or she had picked 10? Payouts are affected by the number of numbers that you pick. Youll get paid more for guessing a large amount of numbers than just limiting yourself to a small amount.
Keno will appeal to players who believe their luck and who are looking for a strike in one or two bets rather than a playing a more skillful and consistent game.
