Choosing your winning Baccarat Strategy [Tuesday, November 14, 2006]

The great thing about Baccarat is that it is not only easy to learn how to play, but it is also one of the easiest games where you can learn to make smart bets. Casinos have relatively low house edges for these games, so when you start to apply your betting strategies, you can see them starting to work for you quickly.
|
It all comes down to having three betting choices in the game: either you bet on the Banker's hand, the Player's hand or predict that there'll be a Tie. When you bet on the Banker, you are on the safest ground, because the house edge is close to 1.0%. Bankers tend to win more than players, but remember that a 5% charge will be deducted from your winnings (the casino's cut, called the Vigorish). For a $100 bet on Banker you will get only $195 as compared to $200 for Player. However you may win it more often, so it's a good position to be in.
If you bet on the Player's hand, you'll have a slightly higher house edge on the one side (1.25%) but also no vigorish on the other side. All your winnings will be yours to keep. In many games of Baccarat you can choose to play as a Single Player, a Multiplayer, or in a Private Group option.
The third option is the Tie bet. This is much harder to win and the house edge here is almost 5%. But if you do win, you can get 9:1 odds. Bet $100, tie with the Banker and get $900. It is very tempting, but before you try you should be sure of your game.
There's no pointing in keeping track of patterns in the sequence of cards as they are dealt, since all cards are dealt randomly and computer-controlled. Most casinos used 6 decks of cards, so the chance of finding a pattern is extremely slim.
Since baccarat is not strong on winning strategies, the best advice is to apply strategy to how you spend your money. Don't make bets that are too large for your available bankroll and don't increase your bets when losing. Do so only when you are winning. Set a limit on your losses and stick to it without question. If you start with $100, tell yourself you're not going to leave with less than $50.
