An eating guide for Home Poker Games

Poker players aren't known for their amazing cooking skills, and that's how it should be! What real poker player is going to spend all day cooking when they can work on their poker skills at an online poker room? However no home poker game is worth anything without some snacks for your guests to munch on. Without a few munchies, players are likely to run home early and eat, instead of staying satisfied for an all night poker game.

The food pyramid of a home poker game starts off with the 'must haves'- peanuts and pretzels. These foods should be available- always! Bars take care to offer these snacks because they induce thirst and force customers to buy more. So remember to supply water, soda and ummm, tons of beer to keep your players in their seats and out of the kitchen sink.
Since the host can't really leave the table (and wouldn't want to), the main course for a poker game must be prepared first and easy to serve. Some players like to take a quick eating break to refresh and prepare for the next game, and for players like this more complicated meals work well. Stuff like chili, pizza and burgers are good. Ribs always keep players happy, but sticky, so unless you want to take a break from the game, stay away from sticky foods.
You don't want players to mess up your cards so be careful what you serve if you want to play and eat at the same time. Even pizza can be too greasy to eat around the poker table, so be prepared with lots of paper towels for people to wipe their hands on. Sandwiches are always a plus, as you can always flick deli meat off the cards at the end of the game with no damage done! For an easy and satisfying poker meal, just pick up a few pounds of meat at your local deli, and lay out a nice spread with meat, fresh bread, condiments (ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, mustard...) and something good to drink. Other than washing the lettuce, you don't have to do anything and players will stay happy and willing to keep playing all night.
For the more adventurous poker night hosts- here are some easy recipes that will show off your cooking skills along with your poker ones!
Hot Sauce (serve with chips)
Ingredients:
-Two 14.5 cans Stewed Tomatoes (skinless), 1 teaspoon white vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg,
1 teaspoon Oregano, 1 Medium sized onion, Jar Jalapeos peppers *drain juice, Tablespoon garlic.
Directions: Throw into blender- blend!
Pigs in a Blanket
Ingredients:
Crescent Dinner Rolls of Biscuit Dough (can be purchased already made), Fully cooked cocktail wieners (or regular sized hot dogs cut smaller), cheese sliced into strips, corn meal, lots of sauces- Ketchup, Mustard, BBQ, Tabasco and more!
Directions:
Start off by heating your oven to 375 F. Then take a greased cookie sheet (cover with spray or butter) and unroll the dough onto the sheet. Separate the dough into 8 triangles, and cut each of them into three small ones. (For biscuits cut each into thirds and press flat into strips). Place your little wiener and a piece of cheese on one side of the dough and roll up to the other side. Place the rolled wieners one to the cookies sheet and sprinkle them with corn meal. Bake for 11-15 minutes until they turn a nice golden brown and remove immediately from sheet. - Serve to hungry guests who will be so distracted by your cooking skills that you can win all their money!
