This guide to online Roulette contains some special terminology which may be unfamiliar. We provide this useful glossary, written in a clear and concise manner, to help you understand the terms and play a better game.

A bet on the layout
|
A bet placed anywhere on the numbers section of the table
|
|
A spin
|
One game of roulette while the ball is still in action
|
|
American Wheel
|
A roulette wheel that has a total of 38 numbered pockets (numbers 1-36, 0 and 00)
|
|
Block bet
|
A bet where you place your chips on the meeting point of four different numbers, betting on all four numbers at once
|
|
Cheval
|
French for Split bet
|
|
Column bet
|
One of the three longer sections of the layout this is an outside bet (Colonne - Column Bet in French)
|
|
Combination Bet
|
At least one chip in the same position to bet on more than one number each time
|
|
Corner bet
|
A bet on four numbers, an inside bet
|
|
Double zero
|
Bet placed on the green 00 pocket, hard to win, high payout
|
|
Dozen bet
|
One of three dozen numbers on the layout, an outside bet on 12 numbers at the same time. Numbers 1-12, 13-24, or 25-36
|
|
En plein
|
French for Straight up bet
|
|
En prison
|
Take back half of your bet when the ball lands on zero, or leave it in prison for one more round, if the outcome is zero again, then the bet is lost
|
|
European wheel
|
A roulette wheel with 37 slots numbered 1 to 36 plus one zero
|
|
Even-Odd Bet
|
Pays out 1:1 if the winning number is Even or Odd. This is an 18 number outside bet
|
|
Evens
|
An even-money bet on the ball to land on any one of the even numbers on the roulette table
|
|
Five number bet
|
Common with American double-zero roulette wheels, this roulette bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3
|
|
High or low bet
|
An even money bet, either for the top half (19-36) or the bottom half (1-18) of the numbers. (outside bet)
|
|
Inside bet
|
A bet placed on any individual number or any combination of numbers anywhere on the layout
|
|
La partage
|
Similar to the En prison rule, but the roulette player loses half the bet and cannot leave the bet for another spin
|
|
Line bet
|
Pays out 5:1 odds bet that the ball will land on any set of six neighboring numbers on the table
|
|
Orphans
|
Bet on three numbers, for example 6, 34 and 17, that are next to each other on the wheel, but far apart on the layout
|
|
Oustide bet
|
Bet placed on any column of 12 numbers running along the table and odds pay 2:1, Outside Even Money Area pays 1:1
|
|
Six line bet
|
Bet on six numbers at the same time
|
|
Sixainne
|
Six line bet (French)
|
|
Split bet
|
Bet on two adjacent numbers on the roulette table by putting your chips on the line between the numbers
|
|
Straight up bet
|
Bet on one single number.
|
|
Street bet
|
Bet on three numbers
|
|
Transversale
|
Street bet (French)
|
