This guide to online Pai Gow contains some special terminology which may be unfamiliar. We provide this useful glossary, written in a clear and concise manner, to help you understand the terms and play a better game.

|
Banker
|
A player bets against the banker in a game of Pai Gow Poker
|
|
Co-banking
|
A casino may give the banker responsibility for half of the action while house is responsible for the other half
|
|
Copies
|
A tie, when the banker and player receive identical hands, in the case of a copy or tie, the winnings go to the banker
|
|
Dragon Hand
|
Hand dealt to an empty seat at the table, sometimes, a player is allowed to play the dragon hand when playing two hands in the same game
|
|
Flush
|
Five cards of the same suit of any ranking (for example, 4-5-8-J-K of spades)
|
|
Foul hand
|
A 5-card hand (high hand) with a lower ranking than a 2-card hand (low hand), the player should then choose a different 2-card hand
|
|
Four-of-a-kind
|
Four cards of the same rank (e.g., 9-9-9-9) the highest-ranked cards win if the dealer and player both have four-of-a-kind
|
|
Full House
|
Three-of-a-kind and one pair, ties are broken by the highest-ranking three-of-a-kind (e.g., K-K-K-8-8 beats J-J-J-A-A)
|
|
Hand Behind
|
This is the five card hand in Pai Gow because it is placed behind the smaller two card hand
|
|
Hand in Front
|
This is the two card hand in Pai Gow because it is placed in front of the five card hand
|
|
High Card
|
When no player has at least 1 pair, then the highest-ranking card of each player's five-card hand decides the winning hand
|
|
High hand
|
Hand Behind or a five-card hand
|
|
House Way
|
A set way that all dealers must use when setting their hands in Pai Gow, and it determines which cards they use in both their hands
|
|
Joker
|
A wild card in Pai Gow, you can use it to complete a flush, straight, or straight flush, when If it can not be used to complete one of these hands it automatically becomes an Ace
|
|
Low hand
|
Another name for the 'Hand in Front' or two card hand
|
|
Pai Gow
|
Pai Gow Poker is a mixture of the ancient Chinese game with classic American Poker
|
|
Push
|
A tie hand between the player and the dealer where each holds a combination of winning and losing hands, no money is won or lost
|
|
Royal Flush
|
10-J-Q-K-A of the same suit
|
|
Set
|
Separating the dealt hand into a five-card hand and a two-card hand
|
|
Shake-Shake
|
Another name for Pai Gow Poker
|
|
Split
|
To separate the dealt hand into two hands of five and two cards each
|
|
Straight
|
Similar to the 'Straight Flush' but not of the same suit, i.e., five cards of different suits ranked in order
|
|
Straight Flush
|
Five cards of the same suit ranked in order (i.e., 7-8-9-10-J of Spades)
|
|
Three-of-a-kind
|
Three cards of the same ranking (i.e., Q-Q)
|
|
Two Pair
|
Two sets of pairs
|
|
Wild Card
|
The 53rd card in a Pai Gow deck, and it is usually a Joker
|
