Free Poker Tournaments can win students scholarships
[Saturday, February 04, 2006]
AbsolutePoker.com
sponsors a free Internet poker tournament called "Win Your Tuition" for college students.
The idea is that student contestants can participate in a fun and competitive event without risking their own money. The winners are able to earn scholarships. However it should be said that young people who are skilled at betting on card games have a greater chance of winning.
Who tends to bet more? The University of Pennsylvanias 2005 National Annenberg Risk Survey of Youth reports that the rates of young men betting weekly on the Internet rose from 1.1 percent in 2004 to 2.4 percent in 2005. The rate for young women, 0.7 percent, did not change. On a monthly basis, 19.6 percent of young men reported gambling online, according to the survey. For the most part, the main motivator for gambling is experiencing the thrill of the game, not the money that may be won. So says the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors in Canada.
