Elliot Going for WSOP Bracelet

Arguably Pueblo's most successful Texas Hold'em player, Larry Elliott, is not after the money, but the World Series of Poker championship bracelet, saying the bracelet is the key.

Elliott, who has twice in recent years beaten Phil Hellmuth Jr., one of the world's most famous Hold'em players and nine-time WSOP winner, is playing to win, going for poker's most coveted title, the WSOP tournament.
Already this month Elliott finished 21st out of a crowd of 518 contestants at the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament in California, winning a total of $50,000.
The WSOP tournament will be played this year at the Rio in Las Vegas, after at decades-long tradition of the event being staged at Binion's Horseshoe. The main event, which comes at the end of a series of smaller tournaments, is an intensive nine-day no-limit Texas Hold'em tournament. A gruelling challenge for even the most seasoned of players, with around 8,000 players expected to put up the $10,000 buy-in.
Last year's WSOP winner, Australian poker champ Joe Hachem walked away from a 5,600-strong field with a cool $7.6 in prizes.
This year the tournament will commence at the end of June, with 45 events spanning more than a month, with the main event set to kick off on 28th July.
Elliott has been playing cards since childhood, leaning the first games such as pinochle, euchre, cribbage and blackjack from his grandmother, but only began to play seriously back in 2002, when his first entry in the WSOP lost him $10,000.
Off the poker table, Elliott is working in construction, contracting in Louisiana to help the area recover from the damage caused by the Katrina disaster. He lives in Pueblo with his wife and two of their eight children.
